Well, this was an enlightening article indeed! As an undergraduate student I have only recently heard about the SpeechEasy. One of my professors is definitely a member of the "upset stuttering therapists" group mentioned early on in the article. In class, we were shown a clip promoting the SpeechEasy that portrayed the device as miraculous. I am glad to see (and I am sure my professor will be as well) that valid, research-based evidence is finally emerging with regards to the SpeechEasy. This article did a wonderful job of taking a balanced perspective--the SpeechEasy was labeled as neither a "miracle device" nor as an evil agent of deception. As with many other things in this world, this research indicates that the SpeechEasy has both its pros and cons. In addition, I was intrigued by the disparities between SpeechEasy users' perceived results and actual results. As was stated in the article, this phenomenon could absolutely prove to be a source of difficulty in working with consumers who choose to utilize the SpeechEasy device. Finally, let me express my appreciation for this valuable information. I found it most helpful.
