In my clinical work, Michael, desensitization of stuttering is always targeted, whether or not a client has a SpeechEasy or not. I personally feel that individuals who stutter have a much, much better chance of successfully employing fluency shaping, stuttering modification, or other therapeutic strategies when they do not fear stuttering and are not attempting to hide the fact they stutter in the first place. Moreover, one who has learned not to fear stuttering has much less work left to do, and can do the remainder much more easily. So, I agree that SpeechEasy users would benefit from incorporating desensitization activities into their treatment, whether it be self- or clinician-directed.
