When we were initially trained several years ago, Dr. Peter Ramig and some of his private practice colleagues (of which I am one) drove to Denver for a day of training provided by Janus Development Group. We were trained in the fitting protocols, equipment, etc. and have received additional updates, revisions, and professional development along the way since then. In short, the SpeechEasy is well supported by its distributor and we have found them interested in hearing our feedback. Currently, SpeechEasy training is longer and more intensive for first-timers and is typically conducted at Janus company headquarters in Greenville, NC. These changes represent efforts to make training better and more consistent, as it has become clearer that SLPs have an important and active role in facilitating success during SpechEasy fitting and follow-up. I think the decision to become a provider is a personal one--one that I am in no position by desire to mandate, but I have not regretted my decision to provide clients with this option when appropriate.
