One thing to keep in mind is that improved fluency may not be as great as it seems if other aspects of communication are compromised in order to attain that fluency. For instance, many of our subjects reported that background noise and/or being unable to hear other people were drawbacks of wearing the SpeechEasy. For some subjects, these issues were so irritating that they outweighed the positive effects the device had on their speech.
