I think we all have, at one point, had something embarrassing that we wish to hide from others. I can see your point about a person tricking themselves into believing misinformation, and avoidance would definitely be a key in feeding that belief. Never facing a situation would certainly make it easier to continue to believe that everything is okay. I like that you talk about contrasting a person’s words with their actions in order to get a better picture of the person’s difficulties. When working with a client, who has fully convinced himself that a problem does not exist, what would be the best way to address a discrepancy in what the client is saying and what he is doing?
