I think that largely depends upon the client. Sometimes it may be prudent to "tuck this information away" to be used at a later time when you feel the client is ready for the confrontation. At other times a client may be unaware of the conflicting messages, and bringing it to his/her attention can be a meaningful part of therapy right now. Thanks for the insightful question.
