I might open the topic by sharing my observations with the client. In doing so, inviting the client's participation to resolve the discrepancy between what he/she says, and how he/she acts. There may be an explanation, or more facts that I am unaware of. But either way, we are breaking new ground with the client in discovering and discussing his/her feelings about stuttering.
