Susan, In working with adults, I've found that some clients are interested in engaging their spouses, friends and co-workers, while others prefer to work independently. One adult, a university student, practiced with her mother every day, calling her on the cell phone and having a conversation between her classes, using whatever technique she was practicing. This worked well, as the client was quite comfortable with her mother. Later, she chose to tell one of her instructors about what she was doing in therapy, and enlisted the instructor by asking to do her first in-class presentation to a smaller audience, working her way up to the entire class by the end of the semester. I make suggestions about ways that the client can engage others to benefit transfer, and then go with whatever the client feels most comfortable in doing. Thanks for your questions and best wishes as you complete your degree. Regards, Lynne
