Natalie, Good question. If a family truly does not wish to be involved, then it is important to honor their wishes. However, it may also be that, in the case of a busy schedule, the SLP needs to really take this into consideration in planning for transfer. If home activities for transfer are worked into the normal routine of the family's day, it is more likely that the family can support the child. For example, if the child is working on resisting interruption by asking the other person to wait a minute, that can be done during a family meal time if the family eats together.
