Wonderful article! I am a graduate SLP student at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. All my life I have been involved with music (specifically singing). I took vocal lessons, music history classes, piano lessons, and sang with multiple choirs and have felt the therapeutic power of music. Since I started taking SLP classes, the idea of combining music with therapy has been a major interest of mine. You mentioned encouraging clients to formulate their own songs. For those who are dealing with social anxiety issues related to stuttering, do you find formulating their own songs to be challenging (possibly adding to their anxiety)? Do you help clients with the process or coming up with their song or model a song of your own to further encourage support? Also, how long do music therapy board certification programs take to complete?
