Hi, thanks for the great questions! As I mentioned in some other comments in here, I've greatly varied the open-endedness of the improvisation depending on the client's needs. It could be as contained as filling in one word to a song with very obvious structure, or as loose as free-form improvisation. Some folks are actually more comfortable when there are NO rules. It's all about the client's needs and starting with them where they are. Regarding MT programs, you can do a master's in MT in two years if you go all year round and intern while going to school. This is totally doable, albeit slightly insane. I went to Lesley and did this. It sounds like you have the music background to head right into the program without having to do prerequisite work.
