Hi, this is a really great question. My only experience with people with cleft palate has been a few individuals with very severe disabilities, so we were working more on trying to make purposeful sounds at all. This sounds like something that would be great to look into. Is singing currently used in working with air control for folks with cleft palate? I would imagine that any singing-based work could potentially be more effective if it were done in the context of live music with a music therapist (same neurological phenomena I mentioned in my article, wherein activating as many areas of the brain as possible allows the areas to help each other out). If you're interested in this, I'd suggest doing a search for "cleft palate" in the MT journals, or seeing if a MT in your area is willing to do a few cotreats to see how it goes.
