"There was an article in the conference about children with Down's Syndrome who also stutter. Has there been any evidence to suggest that music therapy would be a good way to improve fluency in children with Down's Syndrome?" Yep, I'm in the middle of reading it. I'm finding it really informative! I wouldn't see why MT wouldn't be effective; it's generally very effective with folks with Down's, usually around goals such as self-regulation, decreasing anxiety, increasing self-expression. I haven't worked with anyone with Down's around stuttering, but I've worked with a lot of people with Down's, and I've worked with a lot of people who stutter and have ASD and/or MR. So I'm not going to say yes or no, but I would recommend referring someone if the person/family are interested. One of the great things about MT is that we address many domains simultaneously, so if it's not effective with the stuttering, it would inevitably still be likely to help the person with Down's with other things, like self-expression, dealing with stigma, etc.
