Yes, there are a number of studies looking at brain scans as well as things like cortisol levels, seratonin levels, etc. before and throughout different therapeutic approaches. Quantitative research isn't really my area of expertise, so I don't know any particular studies to point you to off the top of my head, but you can of course browse through the various MT journals and find these sorts of things if you're the sort of person who likes to sift through a lot of data (which I'm unfortunately not!) As I mentioned in other threads, you're not going to find as much quantitative research as you might in, say, SLP, because it really goes against the essence of our field for us to do a procedure exactly the same way with everyone in a sample group; we're all about working with people in the moment and tailoring the work to be individualized to the person and his or her needs. So you won't find much of that kind of data, but there is definitely data using biological measures to determine how people respond to a certain category of MT intervention -- but usually not to identical interventions.
