Hi Erika, I am a grad student of Dr. David Shapiro at WCU with a B.A. in Music and many years of training in the Suzuki method, so your article caught my eye! I have a few questions for you. First, in Dr. Sacks' recent book "Musicophilia", he discusses a language-center/music-center brain connection of which researchers may not be fully aware. Because rate of speech (rhythm) is an issue in fluency, what are your feelings about this possible brain connection? Second, in reference to gait training, you indicate that an MT uses "voice and either piano or guitar to accompany the individual's walking." Have these three instruments been found to be the most effective during therapy or are others such as violin, cello, marimba, etc. equally as effective? Additionally, would this method and instruments used in gait training apply also to fluency therapy? Finally, have your clients experience greater fluency success using one style of music over another? Thank you, Debbie Dunham
