Yep. I work with several SLPs who have GREAT counseling skills, but people tend to get really stuck on the letters after someone's name, so many people can't imagine that a SLP would possibly be able to understand their psych stuff. This reminds me of those studies in the '70s where people on a locked psych ward talked about their social/emotional stuff the most to custodians, foodservice people, maintenance people, etc. Slightly different issue than being concerned about one's specific training as some people are, but I do think there's some validity to people being more comfortable talking to folks who don't have white coats or scientific instruments.
