You ask, Tara, how I motivate myself each day to walk a Path of Happiness. It's by attending as closely to The Now as I can. While I do, I am happy even when I recognize challenges around me. I've applied some techniques to help me be present, techniques that are pretty well known, such as meditation, attending to nature, beginning the day with the intention of being present at a meeting, or while eating, or while driving, etc., and closing the day with a careful review of what I've done that furthered my intention or stalled it. Maybe I've just been unlucky, or, perhaps, lucky, not to have had people close to me on a daily basis entirely supportive of my intent to support me when I felt discouraged. So, I learned to rely on myself to keep going primarily through recognition of how much richer my life was when I did that it was when I was pre-occupied with getting what I wanted and getting even. Then, too, the wealth of books, magazines, audio and video materials, seminars, and workshops provide and have provided timely direction and encouragement. It is not easy to do what many do not, but it is satisfying, deeply satisfying. Ellen-Marie Silverman
