[[I was wondering whether many people who stutter seek psychological therapy simultaneously with speech therapy or do you feel that having an understanding SLP who provides counseling can help/will be enough for the clients to gain self-esteem and think well of themselves by separating themselves from their stuttering.]] Sabina, an adult seeking to, as you put it, separate themselves from their stuttering problem (Please note that I distinguish between stuttering and having a stuttering problem) would be well-advised to become deeply aware of their motivation for entering therapy and their expectations for a successful experience as well as to become well-informed about the benefits, costs, and methods of available therapy services. In that way, they can then decide what would be best use their resources to satisfy their needs. That is the best approach I can suggest for an adult to use to make the very important decisions of whether or not and what form of professional service might be beneficial for them personally at a particular time in their life. Thank you for your very thoughtful questions. Ellen-Marie Silverman
