Thanks Pam. It never stops surprising me how powerful self-help and support can be. When we interviewed the young adults for this ISAD podcast at the National Stuttering Association’s annual conference, they seemed to be in very confident and good places with their stuttering. This shouldn’t be surprising to me because I have been involved with self-help groups for some years. Yet, it still does surprise me to see how powerful support can be for young people who stutter. Growing up, I was alone with my stuttering, but the young adults we spoke to are not. It is truly awesome that children and teens who stutter can grow up in the self-help world. At StutterTalk.com we published the entire interviews with these young adults (for the ISAD we published excerpts). While they peak with confidence, the teens also share the struggles they have faced and continue to face with stuttering. It is always refreshing to see young people dealing with this difficult issue from good, confident places. Self-help, meeting other people who stutter and talking about stuttering has a lot to do with the appreciation for stuttering and confidence we have seen in these interviews.
