Wow! I have been waiting for a question like this! Jokes apart- what you suggest, I am already trying it out.. I sit down with other PWS and sometime we meditate, sometime I ask them just to be quiet (externally and internally) in the memory of all those young children who have lots to say, but cant speak.. I also reinforce in various ways, this thought: accepting God means accepting his creation- and you yourself are one of his creation. So, why fight against yourself? etc. When people have gone through this initial preparation, they are more open to cataloging their stutter, modifying it etc etc. Techniques come later. First is the attitude. Inner values. I have been a student of comparative religions- and I discovered that ‘eastern’ and western’ are only labels of convenience. In every religion there are traditions similar to ‘Meditation’. But due to ‘excesses’ of organized sectarian religions, people have come to distrust anything which smacks of religion (especially in west). This is a true case of throwing the baby out with the bath water! I am aware that this approach may not work with many for a variety of reasons.. But when your Riper says ‘touch the untouchable’ or Sheehan says- Stammering is not a speech disorder, it is a disorder of social presentation of self.. They are hinting at something more than just muscular incoordination, dopamine in basal ganglia, pre-central motor pathways etc. Will be happy to answer more questions, if you have. Regards.
