Sachin, thank you so much for sharing your story. I am an Undergraduate student at The College of Saint Rose in New York. Prior to my fluency class this semester, I had never taken into consideration that stuttering is a real life issue people live with. Now that I think of it, the only time I was even presented with the issue was comical through television programs. I recently attended a fluency council and found myself tearing up as another woman shared her inner feeling towards her stuttering. The emotions and issues were raw and moving. I feel, as with many other life issues, children need to be presented and introduced to information at a younger age. I feel youth would benefit from diversity classes in middle schools that touch on the various issues that individuals face. Somehow empathy needs to be instilled in youth so we can better ourselves as a nation and stereotypes broken-down. I would hope that by educating youth with real life situations the drive to accept and understand others would be heightened. Maybe I'm a dreamer :) but, do you feel a class that touches on diversity and varying human conditions would be beneficial to youth?
