Hi Christina- It is always helpful for parents to reinforce and validate talking. That reinforcement should be twofold. While it is certainly imprtant to carryover things donoe in therapy inot the home and school environment, we shuld encourage parents to both positively reinforce when the child is using speech tools, as well as communication attempts in general. I can easily hear my parents say at home "You are being a great speech ranger today!" or "You are doing better easy talk than mommy!", but when paretns reinforce communication attempts in general, independant of fluency, they send the message to the child that it is what they are saying that really matters.
