Thank you for providing me with several strategies to help children feel good about talking! I am currently a graduate student, but during the past five summers I have worked at a childcare center. If there are three things children are empowered by it is having the opportunity to demonstrate their strength, superheroes, and competition. In order to encourage children during clean up time, I often would say, “You are so strong, I bet you can put that toy away!” I never thought of using this as a therapy tool until you mentioned talking about a child’s “speech muscle.” It is so important for the child to develop a positive attitude regarding their speech and incorporating some of these techniques will help to foster that. I look forward to implementing some of these strategies in my future career. Thanks again!
