Hi David, I thoroughly enjoyed reading your paper. You wrote, "When you have a bad time of it, try to let that moment go -- it's history." I totally agree. I feel it is of prime importance that we recognise, and closely monitor, our self-talk. It can be SO harmful, as the majority of our thoughts are negative. I spent a lifetime reminding myself of (and giving far too much prominence to) those instances where I felt I had been unsuccessful. Today, I acknowledge negative thoughts and do not suppress them. However, I never retain such a thought for more than a few seconds before I banish it to the trash can. Each time we re-think a thought, we give it added strength and influence over us. Some of the messages we convey to ourselves are hugely detrimental ("You're stupid, you're a failure"). We wouldn't dream of making such harsh commments to our loved ones and friends. It is so important that we become our own best friend, rather than remain our worst enemy. Make friends with yourself and you'll never be alone. Thank you, once again, for providing such a balanced viewpoint. Kindest regards Alan
