Thanks for your comments, Jessica. In the case of a child stutterer who has autism or mental retardation, I assume that the appropriate specialist would be working with him on those problems, while you as an SLP would be dealing with the stuttering (and any concomitant language problem he may have). Of course, whenever a child is being seen by two or more different specialists, there should be constant coordination between those specialists concerning goals and techniques.
