Glad you liked my article, Nomi. If a child is strongly self-critical about his stuttered speech, the parent or caregiver should accept the child's speech as it is, emphasizing to the child that you know he's doing the best he can, and that you love him just as he is. Encourage other people in the child's daily environment to do likewise. In every way you can, try to give the child self-confidence and a sense of personal worth. Encourage him in whatever hobbies he may have, and show interest in whatever he says. Encourage conversations with him, and never show any disapproval, impatience, or othe negative reactions to his stuttering. If the child is receiving speech therapy, discuss these matters with his therapist, and cooperate with the therapist in every way.
