Dr. Yaruss, I read your paper and liked it. The analogies are very good. But I am just thinking about the real world and the realities. Suppose the parent ask the child what he learned/did in speech therapy today...I just wonder if some parents/teachers/adults would interpret the strategies as "slow down" and simply telling the child "to slow down" when the child is stuttering. And do you think that children learn and model from the adults in their environment? Teachers, mom and dad, and adult relatives. Do children learn fast speech rate from the adults...ex. mom talks fast on the phone and in everyday convesations. Finally...is there any evidence that children have a faster overall speech rate when not stuttering. Thanks for your time!
