Hi Heather! Thanks for the kind words and great question. The answer is, in short, YES, definitely we want them to try it out and play with it and practice it -- a lot, actually. Probably the most important ideas to remember about working with the little ones are "show, not tell" and "try, not talk" (I just made that last one up ;-). The more they play with it, the more concrete and real it becomes. Too much talking and you lose them, so that's why I try to make all of the analogies concrete. Hope this helps! Again, thanks! S
