Thank you Dr. Yaruss for introducing the concept of 'just right'. In my experience with colleagues working with children who stutter, I often heard the terms "turtle speech" and "rabit" speech, but this article points out that those alone are not sufficient. We need to teach children that there is a medium ground (between the turtle and rabbit)that is reflective of communication, and also facilitative, and the list of analogies that you provided certainly allow that to happen. As the previous posting, I was wondering about how these intial anologies may foster carryover of the techniques discussed. One thought that came to mind is that perhaps by presenting the analogies and having children experiment with them, the concept of "just right" may become engraved. conceptualized, allowing for carry-over to activities outside of therapy. What is your opinion?
