This article provided a simple approach for teaching young children concepts that can improve their stuttering. In terms of speaking rates and physical tensions, J. Scott Yaruss was quite thorough in explaining the importance of addressing the third level (just right) in stuttering therapy. From my observations, many individuals who interact with a child who stutters, such as teachers, may advise the child to speak slower. However, J. Scott Yaruss clarified that if a speech rate is too slow, communication may become difficult. Personally, I feel this concept is essential in therapy, and I look forward to incorporating it in my own career. I especially liked that J. Scott Yaruss provided clear examples of analogies that help a clinician teach the three levels. All the examples, such a Goldilocks and the Three Bears, are appropriately geared towards young children. Also, I feel the examples provided will be engaging and appeal to young children. The analogies are a wonderful technique in allowing a child to understand how to speak more fluently!
