Hi Yirmyaho, Thank you for taking the time to respond. The contents of my paper may be applied to anyone, not just those who stutter. Realising that I could take charge of my thoughts had a huge impact upon my life (and speech). The words that your mentor imparted were, indeed, wise and pertinent. Our minds are extremely responsive to the thoughts that we generate within. This inner conversation (or self-talk) is a constant feature of life and (it is my understanding that it) takes place outside our conscious awareness. It can be so damaging. Negative self-talk is the foundation upon which self-doubts are built and can be extremely detrimental to our self-confidence. It can also limit our achievements. I learned to deal with my negative thoughts by closely monitoring my inner critic. Most of us adopt disempowering beliefs and then forget that we have the ability to re-evaluate the situation and choose the beliefs that we wish to live by. Those who become dominated by faulty thinking need to free themselves from the rigid hold that they impose. Kindest regards Alan
