I was truly touched by this article. I am not a person who stutters but I am a graduate student currently taking a class in stuttering. I believe that awareness, empowerment, and self-image can really be a stronghold for therapy for a person who stutters. As a future SLP, I wonder using these techniques for those children who are especially in need of self-help, awareness, and personal strategies that affect their daily life. I see how motivated you are and I wonder how difficult it can be to motivate a child or adolecent who stutters. What do you suggest doing in order to keep them motivated towards creating a positive self-image? Motivation can be really challenging when children are often frustrated at little gains. How can we make sure that they are aware that they can gain full control of their feelings and as you said, "surprise" themselves at the things they do... This really made me think about all those "little moments" in therapy that really make the largest impact.
