Hi Meryl, Visualization techniques were only a small part of my approach; there were so many others. I suppose it was very much like assembling a jigsaw – each piece fitted into place to subsequently provide the finished article. In common with any skill, you need to practise in order to become proficient. The same applies to visualization techniques – you are unlikely to derive maximum benefit overnight. If things didn’t go quite as well as I had planned, I was never despondent and focussed on the positives. (If you look carefully enough, you will always find a positive in ANY situation). I didn’t consider setbacks to be failures – as far as I was concerned they were valuable learning experiences. I viewed them as stepping stones to future success. I should also explain that I dealt holistically with my stutter. By working on various aspects of my life (for example, self-acceptance, self-esteem, assertiveness, non-avoidance, letting go, expanding comfort zones, challenging self-limiting beliefs, physical behaviours etc), I found that my speech improved as a by-product. Thank you for reading my paper and taking the time to provide feedback. Kindest regards Alan
