Alan, thank you for making so many great points. I am currently a graduate student and found this paper to be very helpful. I found it interesting that you said that when you found yourself not stuttering, you had the internal dialogue that was questioning your identity. I was wondering if any particular event helped you to quiet this voice, or if you found yourself using more positive talk to counteract this voice, or if it just happened naturally over time. I also enjoyed your section about the power of beliefs. I like how you said that when you are younger, your belief system is really reflective of those who you had a lot of contact with, whereas as you grow older, your belief system becomes much more internalized. I can see in my own experiences how my belief system has directly affected my actions, so I can definitely see how a person’s belief system may impact their stuttering.
