Hi Nicole. Yes, anger, just like fear, is good as long as you use it in a constructive way. But, just like training, you need to find a reason or an insight to start making a change. But you also need friends. And a good therapist. :-) My self perception changed when I found out I was good enough. What I had to say was worth repeating. That there was more to me than my stutter and that I had qualities I needed to focus on and put my stutter in another space than right in front of me. Sure, a big nose it not fun, but by putting a nice color in your hair and looking people in the face with a pair of lovely eyes, people's focus change. Coping with a stutter is all about changing focus. For some focus on a more fluent speech, for others focus on a great life, no matter what. Focus on not only the goal but on a fun way getting there. And i guess you're a therapist, so here's where you come in. :-) And last but not least: the support groups. That totally changed my life, my focus, myself. thanks for asking. Happy ISAD! Anita Are there any strategies in particular that you have found more helpful or motivating than others?
