Carly, its interesint that you asked specifically about my hearing aid license. There was originally material in this article which didn't make the final draft. In trying to get my license, I ended up going to the Federal District Court of Appeals in New Orleans. This is the court right below the Supreme Court. That court's decision was that "a blind person constututes a menace to the public by fitting hearing aids". Needless to say, I was not licensed. A couple years after I got my audiology license and certification, the laws in Texas were changed so that audiologists could fit and dispense hearing aids. Prior to about 1995 they could not do so and you could only go to a hearing aid dealer. So actually the answer to your question is that I was never licensed but changes in the audiology laws of Texas made it unnecessary. An interesting thing about that court issue is that when we were about to go to the hearing at the court one of the lawyers told me that I didn't need to go and probably shouldn't because they needed "very verbal people" and stuttering would damage my case. Perhaps I should have gone after all.
