Tom, your story is truly inspiring. The path you have taken and the hurtles you have had to jump to get to where you are today is remarkable. While reading you exert there were several things that crossed my mind. I was surprised to read you were turned down when attempting to receive a degree in counseling. Counseling is such a vital aspect in helping one achieve self-acceptance with both the overt and covert qualities of stuttering. I was also shocked to hear that you have repeatedly been turned away from job opportunities because you would invalidate both assessment and treatment. With you education and personal experience, I would imagine that your competence is way beyond that which would be expected of typical clinician. I have a few questions about your experiences that I was hoping you could clarify. As you were going through school, why do you believe there were periods where you did not experience dysfluency? How do think your treatment sessions as an SLP are different from those without disabilities. And lastly, why do you think that other professionals feared your position as an audiologist or speech-language pathologist? Was it purely funds and accommodations or their belief of incompetence? Thank you for sharing your experience!
