Great article! I use Audacity now to record podcast clips, both for my blog and for a friend who does a weekly podcast for people who stutter. I used to try and "edit out" the pauses I would see in the wave, but then stopped that because it was ridiculous and time consuming. This article does remind me of an experience I had at a public radio station notlong ago. I had volunteered to be a "reader" for visually impaired folks. I would read newspaper articles or magazine excerpts, which would be recorded and then the visually impaired could listen to news or other articles of interest. Even though I stutter, I have a great voice -loud, clear, resonant, pitch, etc. So, I thought I could pull it off. Well, after auditioning, I had to do a recording session and then was told to edit out the "dead air time". That was my pausing and blocking. I saw it larger than life on the the huge wave length screen playback they had in the studio. It was upsetting to me, and I couldn't do the edits. It would have been like editing me. I just couldn't. So, I never went back. That was a cop-out, I know, but I'll never forget how I felt when I was told to edit out the dead air. Hopefully, your clients, especially children, will really benefit from using audacity software and not get hung up on seeing thier "mistakes" that needed to be "edited out."
