Fascinating article, Judy! My immediate reaction to it was "Great idea to use this way of getting visual feedback, because any kind of immediate feedback is so important in the learning process whether you are learning calculus or learning what your speech sound wave looks like as you try to modify your vocal production and your stuttering behavior." This article has certainly elicited some lively discussion, including words of caution from Pam and others regarding negative reactions from stutterers when confronted with data about their stuttering. And as has been pointed out, technology continues to evolve, and new instrumentation will make it possible to analyze and clinically utilize other aspects of speech and stuttering. (What will never be invented is a meter that will tell how "mild" or "severe" a sample of stuttering is!)
