Paula, Thank you for your appreciative comment. I attended a conference this weekend at which I had lunch with a middle school teacher. He said to me that he often felt like a failure and he really appreciated positive comments from parents and from students. I don't often feel like a failure, but I am sometimes frustrated with speech therapy and wish my students made faster progress. Then, I realize, that I am only a guide and cannot ask my students to validate my career choice. That precludes an honest therapeutic alliance. However, it sure is nice to receive some validation that one is doing productive work, so, thank you for simply writing in to say you found the article helpful. Best of luck with your 5th grader.
