Rebecca: Well speaking strictly for myself, when I was 19 (many, many moons ago) there was two main things on my mind, GIRLS and racing my motorcycle. You are going to have to use your "feminine whiles" on his male ego so that he can see working on his fluency techniques will help him in talking to girls. I know its probably mean and underhanded, but the majority of boys (young men) at that age desperately want to impress girls. You might try bringing in another student clinician (female) and the two of you tell him that all of you are going to work on talking to girls. I'm sure that you are slightly older than your client, so that will be even more of an incentive to him as you are "an older woman" (big plus in the teenage boy scale). If you play it easy and don't push too hard, he will not even know what is going on but will start practicing just so he can impress "an older woman". My daughter used to do something similar when she was growing up and she almost always got what she was after. I, of course, didn't realize what happened until much later when it was too late to change anything.
