Shayna: Being surrounded by females, I have to maintain some sense of humor or I will go nutso (it's called self-defense!!) I've always wondered why I could be sitting on my motorcycle or talking with patients when I was an EMT and never stutter. But the minute I got off the bike or turned to fire/police, etc., it would start up again. Years ago I took a "abnormal psychology" class (I fit right it too), and the professor was a psychiatrist. I asked her about it one time and she said that when I was on my dirt bike or talking to patients I was "in control", but once I redirected my attention, my "control" went out the proverbial window. I tend to believe part of the "control" issue, but there are still questions. When I was racing moto-x (dirt bikes), I was somewhat of a "wild child" in that I would try damn near anything once. I was a favorite target of the local police and sheriff's office because I would ride my racing dirt bike (no lights, license plate, etc) right through the middle of town. The only good thing was that back then the police had to "catch you in the act" before you could get into trouble. I never got caught, even though my uncle was a sergent with the NM State Police and based in my hometown (he chased me a few times too). Once I began easing up on the racing and got into the EMT stuff, I think I still had fears about the police (guilty conscience maybe?). I suppose I will never know for sure what caused that, but I have a lot of theories. Such is life, always full of strange surprises.
