Ruthann: There is a undergraduate student at NMSU that is studying towards the SLP credentials and she stutters. I’m helping her start a chapter of the National Stuttering Association on campus. But other than her I don’t know anyone in Las Cruces that stutters, then again I’m not the most “social” person there is. I can go for days or sometimes weeks at a time where the only person I talk to is my wife. My “anti-social” tendencies are well know in my neighborhood and with my family, so when I’m not in a “talking mood”, everyone asks my wife how I’m doing and such. They all know if they talk to me I will respond but not to expect an extended conversation. My parents weren’t bad at all with my speech. They tried to help me in whatever way they could even though no one knew anything about stuttering. My grandmothers and sister were the ones who seemed more affected by it. But that is just how life goes, at times things are good and at times they aren’t so good.
