Bobby, Thank you for sharing your story on here. It was really encouraging to see how SLP grad students were able to impart a lot of change in how you viewed stuttering in your life and how you viewed speech therapy. I am an SLP grad student just about to go out on her internships and it was so encouraging to read about how a therapy directed at reaching you as a person rather than you as a condition was extremely beneficial to you. I think that because I am so immersed into the Speech/Language pathology culture right now that I don't believe that stories like your life really happen because I am surrounded by peers and professionals who all have a very accepting and person centered attitude about stuttering. The reality is that they do and I really appreciate you sharing it for future SLP's to benefit and learn from. It's also hard to believe that as students we could possibly know anything about helping somebody who stutters and helping a client be successful in stuttering therapy. It brings me hope that just being yourself, being real and regarding the client as a friend can be the best way to help with stuttering therapy. Do you think that when you first started therapy in the third grade that if your clinician had gone about therapy like you have experienced recently that it had would have been just as beneficial to you? Thanks again for sharing your story, it seems like a lot of other people here have really appreciated it too!
