Abby: There is no reason to feel sad about my past as I don’t. I tend to view my past as a learning experience. No one in my family stuttered on either side, so nobody knew what to expect or how to respond. I don’t think I turned out too badly, even though I am kind of warped with my humor. Years ago a friend of my mother’s came to visit her from way back east in the foreign part of the US (anything east of Dallas is considered to be a foreign country). I just happened to answer the phone when she called and was inquiring about getting a passport to visit New Mexico. I was probably around 17-18 at the time, so I told her that she would need a passport and vaccinations too. After she got here, I told her that she needed to take her new car down to the dealer so they could change the air in her tires. She was from the east coast and lived at an elevation of about 20-30 feet above sea level, well in New Mexico in my hometown we were at about 3200 feet. I told her that she needed to change the air in the tires because the higher elevation would make the tires expand and possibly explode. My dad and I thought it was rather funny, but Mom and friend didn’t…..I got grounded for the “rest of my life” for that one.
