Hi Karen, In our clinic we see generalization of skills within unstructured conversations. We often will practice reading utilizing the easier relaxed approach even if the child is fluent during reading, because it builds awareness of the physical feeling associated with continuous phonation, as well as smooth but strong transitions through a group of words or a phrase. During conversational speech, we have observed improvements not only with using an easier relaxed approach but especially with the ability to pause and phrase.
