Hi Priscilla, Thanks for the questions. Are children often able to independently add their own visuals when given a new passage? We usually work up to that. We start by putting the pauses in ourselves and then we have children do it. Sometimes it works best if they do it as they are reading the passage. Also, have you seen children progress from using color coding or slashes in their text to being able to mentally visualize when and where they need to modify their reading? Yes. And, then we also try in spontaneous speech to speak and add in some pauses.
