I have always enjoyed reading books with children, and appreciated their natural ability to slow things down, engage and focus the mind, and allow for sharing a connection with children. I also think that pictures that are well illustrated and magical would open up imaginations and help children connect with the books they are sharing with adults. What a great way to teach! What (if any that you know of) other kinds of language tools are being transfered to books?
