Societal norms and persistent stuttering.

I find your article on developmental stuttering very interesting. It did make me think about norms we tend to place on males vs. females in our society. For instance males are often less likely to show their feelings, expected to be more "manly" and so on. It may be farfetched but, do you think this can be incorporated in any way as to why more males tend to continue to stutter? I know that temperament may play a role in the determination of whether an individual will develop stuttering; do you think societal norms can play a role in why some individuals develop persistent stuttering? (Rather, do you think societal norms we place on the sexes can be incorporated in the role of temperament?)
