Thanks Tobias. The answer is we don't yet understand these sex differences well. A variety of studies have shown sex differences, but the direction of the difference varies from study to study. I.e., some studies find better performance in males and others in females. This may suggest that the sex differences vary across modality (vision vs. audition, etc.). More work is needed to determine whether this is the case. Thanks for you comment.
